The motif of the euro coin is a detail of Hill of Crosses with a depiction of wooden and forged crosses, the first pieces of which were placed here in the 14th to 15th centuries.
The crosses symbolize the Lithuanian cross-craft and folk culture. This craft is inscribed on the UNESCO. Hill of Crosses is one of the sacred pilgrimage sites in Lithuania, which also survived the Soviet occupation. Pope Ján Pavol II he visited it in 1993 and on this occasion dedicated a wooden statue of Jesus Christ to this place.
