Commemorative 2 Euro coin of Monaco, issued in 2024. This collector's euro coin was issued on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the ratification of the Treaty of Burgos, when Monaco as a sovereign state came under the protection of the Spanish King Charles V.
At the beginning of the 16th century, Monaco gained sovereignty and was recognized by neighboring states, but this did not protect Monaco from attacks by its neighbors. In 1506-1507, he had to withstand a 102-day siege by Genoese troops. By ratifying the Treaty of Burgos signed on June 7, 1524, the Treaty of Tordesillas was concluded on November 15, 1524 between the lord of Monaco and the House of Habsburg. This agreement placed Monaco under the protection of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain, and designated it as an imperial fief.
The motif of the euro coin is the portrait of King Charles V.
