Matej Korvín came from the Huňady family. He was the king of Hungary and Croatia, the duke of Austria, and from 1469 he also claimed the title of king of Bohemia. In 1465, he founded the Universitas Istropolitana in Bratislava and in 1480 the university in Pest. During his reign, the country experienced economic and cultural flourishing. The ideas of humanism and renaissance permeated the Hungarian kingdom during his reign.
